Description
Older pets are more prone to developing cancer and with our greater understanding of the importance of the pet/human relationship, treatment of cancer in animals is becoming more common. It is the responsibility of the veterinary surgeon to advise the client not only about the best treatment but also about possible outcomes and prognoses, and Small Animal Oncology:: a practitioners guide has been especially written with this in mind.
Until now, cancer cases have often been referred as a matter of course - or no treatment regime initiated until euthanasia becomes the treatment of choice. Current knowledge, however, provides alternatives for consideration, whether it be referral to a specialist centre, or in carrying out treatment in the general practice itself. This area is explored fully in this book, offering practitioner the knowledge necessary to treat their patients in the surgery, which can avoid the process of referral in some cases, thus reducing stress for both the animal and the owner.
