This book identifies the countries in Europe, Eurasia and Russia where health status is the poorest and where the transition to democracy and free market economies may be the most vulnerable. Poor health diminishes societys productive capacity, deteriorates the strength of civil society and tarnishes peoples perceptions of the benefits of democracy and free market economies. This book provides an overview of health conditions in the Eurasian states, Russia and Europe, and regions in which Congress might consider in providing health assistance.
