Stress is the process in which environmental demands exceed an individuals ability to cope, resulting in affective, behavioural, and physiological changes. In response to stress, the body activates several pathways as the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA), sympathetic-adrenal-medullary, renin-angiotensin system (RAS) and parasympathetic system in attempting to preserve homeostasis. This book provides new research on the impact chronic stress has on overall health.
