The third edition of this quick-reference manual is a companion to the Textbook of Travel Medicine by the same authors. The manual focuses on the diseases travellers face and how to provide them with information, such as immunisations, needed to reduce their risks during travel in endemic areas. Infectious health risks are covered in depth, from transmission and epidemiology through incubation and therapy.
A new format allows for larger, updated maps and figures in colour. New chapters include Food Hygiene, Legal Aspects (including the revised international health regulations), Maritime Health and Natural Disasters. The Infectious Health Risks section includes many new topics including avian influenza, chickungunya and various relevant parasitic diseases. New information is presented on travel medicine vaccines, antimalarial chemoprophylaxis and chemotherapy.
