The hallmark of insulin resistance is an obstacle to glucose uptake, resulting in hyperglycemia and hyperinsulinemia as well as type 2 diabetes mellitus. The prevalence of diabetes mellitus is rapidly increasing world-wide and is becoming an important health problem.
