Description
Computed tomography during arterial portography (CTAP) has become firmly established as a preoperative diagnostic measure characterized by a high sensitivity for the detection of liver lesions. The disadvantages are invasiveness and a high rate of false-positive results. Iron oxide-enhanced MRI as a non-invasive technique provides a high preoperative diagnostic efficacy, which can replace CTAP in many cases.

In this book, both the basic principles and newest results for the use of contrast-enhanced MRI of the liver are presented. In a close cooperation between the universities of Pisa and Frankfurt a detailed text and image collection has been developed and finalized. We, the editors sincerely hope that the presented work will allow the readers to understand and use superparamagnetic contrast agents for evaluating various diseases of the liver.
