Stent thrombosis (ST) is a rare but serious complication after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), because of its high morbidity and mortality. Its incidence ranges from 0.5% to 1% in observational registries and randomised clinical trials. In this book, the authors present topical research on the epidemiology, prevention and management of stent thrombosis. Topics discussed include the prevention of intracoronary stent thrombosis; antiplatelet agents for reduction of cardiovascular events and stent thrombosis; development of a next generation anti-thrombogenic stent using ion beam surface modification and prevention and management of stent thrombosis after complex coronary stenting in patients with risk of gastrointestinal bleeding.
