Recently, there has been an upward trend in the use of ehealth and mhealth worldwide. The potential impact of ehealth and mhealth is significant, as they allow greater reach and greater service within populations. eHealth and mhealth also serves a role in facilitating students in the medical field in active learning through interactivity, collaboration, and peer-professional support. The range of ehealth and mhealth applications is wide, varying from health promotion for patients to support for medical education.
This book showcases design examples of ehealth and mheath interventions in two areas:: health promotion such as fitness and nutrition and health professional education such as continuing education or clinical support. Although the purposes of the interventions are somewhat divergent, in essence, both will exemplify the integration of theory and design principles that benefit health professionals at large. The value of this book will be in its focus on theory and systematic instructional design due to the lack of theoretical support and instructional design principles reported in the literature.
Health professionals and instructional designers will find this compilation of exemplars useful to their practice through the display of the following main components:: a theory that frames the intervention, a systematic instructional design approach that aligns with the theoretical framework, and a discussion of challenges and recommendations for improved practice. The selected cases will provide an array of health topics and target users to highlight the flexibility of design in different settings.
