Opis

This brief title heralds a unique content of the book entitled Radiographic Atlas of Inflammatory Rheumatic Diseases. Connective Tissue Diseases & Spondyloarthritis published under the editorial directorship of Prof. Iwona Sudoł-Szopińska, MD, PhD and with contribution from Dr Genowefa Matuszewska, an expert in diagnostic radiology and Dr Grzegorz Pracon, PhD, a member of the Young Club of the European Society of Musculoskeletal Radiology (ESSR).

The book is focused on the conventional radiography as applied to the diagnosis of inflammatory rheumatic conditions in adults and in children. It is really noteworthy that despite the recent explosion of advanced imaging modalities for diagnosis and evaluation of the variety of musculoskeletal disorders, conventional radiography remains a cornerstone and a very reliable imaging technique for evaluation of rheumatic diseases. Therefore, it is no surprise, this modality was selected by the authors to provide the illustration of variety of skeletal and soft tissue abnormalities seen in patients diagnosed with inflammatory rheumatic diseases including systemic connective tissue diseases and spondyloarthropathies.

The Atlas is divided into four parts. In Part I, the authors provide principles of radiographs interpretation in patients with rheumatic diseases. Part II is devoted to radiographic findings in rheumatic diseases in adult patients and Part III - in children and adolescents. Finally, Part IV focuses on chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis (CRMO) and SAPHO syndrome. The nice touch is inclusion of key definitions of terms used in the text as well as the list of abbreviations.

We address this atlas to medical students, radiology residents and radiologists as well as all students and doctors who are engaged in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the musculoskeletal system. We have made every effort to ensure that the Atlas is practical and educational, and provides assistance in diagnosis and treatment of children, adolescents and adults affected by rheumatic diseases.

The radiographic images presented in the book have been collected over the last 10 years of work in the Department of Radiology of the National Institute of Geriatrics, Rheumatology and Rehabilitation. Here, I would like to thank all my colleagues, doctors and technicians who contributed to this Atlas.
