Bipolar Disorder is discussed in detail, with an emphasis in recent findings that will profounding effect the treatment of bipolarity. Over the past few years, much has been learned about the genetic basis of bipolar disorder, the use of anticonvulsants as mood stabilizers, and the use of atypical antipsychotics as mood stabilizers. The STEP-BD project has yielded important information on the treatment of bipolar disorder, and is comprehensively reviewed in this issue.
