This 15 minute video shows the steps needed to examine the heart, including the proper use of equipment. With the patient supine, it demonstrates how to inspect, palpate, and percuss the patients precordium, with particular attention to the point of maximal impulse. It also demonstrates how to auscultate the heart with the patient seated and in the supine and left lateral recumbent positions. The video shows how to adapt examination techniques and expectations for pediatric and geriatric patients. In addition, it identifies basic heart sounds (S1, S2, splitting, S3, and S4) as well as extra heart sounds and several types of murmurs.
