This monograph is addressed to anyone who wants to help people in emergency situations. The described help is first aid. Additionally, two extra paragraphs are attached - one about AED (automated external defibrillator) and the other one about simple equipment that can be used to perform ventilation. If not added, the text describes everything for adult first aid. The two last chapters pertain to children and infants. The knowledge contained in this book relies on the 2005 Guidelines recommended by European Resuscitation Council (ERC) and American Heart Association (AHA). European and American guidelines differ, so they are both contained in the tables - showing what to do in emergency situations. The readers from Europe should rather rely on European guidelines, while Americans should follow American guidelines. The authors idea was to describe what to do in emergency situations very simply, so some symbols were chosen to indicate mean points of the text linę:: definition, pathophysiology (what is going on and why), recognition, and first aid. In order to understand the text better, it is illustrated with several figures. We hope that this book will help acquire the knowledge about first aid.
